Information Center of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Almaty

The Republic of Kazakhstan has been a member of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) since its establishment, according to the Agreement on establishment of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research dated March 26, 1956, in Dubna. As a sovereign state, the Republic of Kazakhstan has been a member state of JINR since 1992.

Employees from the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan (INP) and the Physical-Technical Institute (PTI) traditionally visit the JINR laboratories. Kazakhstani scientists participate in experiments of many major projects of the Institute, which are part of global collaborations. Today, about 100 Kazakhstani employees work at JINR, among which 20% hold Candidate of Science degrees and PhDs.

In 2010, a four-party agreement was signed with the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University for joint training of bachelors and masters in the specialty "Nuclear Physics" between the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, the Institute of Nuclear Physics, the State University “Dubna” and the Kazakh National University. A similar agreement was signed with the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. Currently, as part of this agreement, more than 140 Kazakhstani students and postgraduates have been trained at the State University “Dubna” and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.

The further plans of the National Group of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NGRK) in JINR include establishment of new collaborations and connections between other educational universities and research groups with the Institute's projects. Opening of an Info-Center in Almaty at the INP took place for this purpose.
