On September 1, 2026, the National Youth Dialogue of Impact Team 2050, titled “Nuclear Dialogue on Equal Terms: Youth’s Path to the Nuclear Industry,” was held at the UN Plaza in Almaty.
The event was organized as part of the activities of the Impact Team 2050 International Youth Advisory Council under the Director General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom.” It brought together students from the Almaty Branch of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI and other universities in Almaty, participants of the UN Discussion Club Almaty, young professionals, as well as representatives of the scientific, nuclear, and energy communities. The Institute of Nuclear Physics was represented by Evgeny Ermakov, Deputy Director General for Production. During the expert session, he spoke about the Institute’s key areas of activity, including fundamental and applied research, nuclear and radiation technologies, the production of radioisotopes for medical and industrial applications, as well as the training of professionals for the nuclear industry.
“Nuclear science is the foundation upon which technologies are developed for energy, medicine, industry, environmental protection, and many other fields. Its enormous potential lies precisely in this interdisciplinary nature,” noted Evgeny Ermakov.
The participants discussed the prospects for the development of nuclear energy in Kazakhstan, the skills and competencies in demand, and career opportunities for young people. During the practical session, students and young professionals identified key barriers to pursuing careers in the nuclear sector and proposed solutions, including strengthening career guidance, organizing more meetings with scientists, and expanding cooperation between schools and universities and research centers and industry enterprises.
