Geneva, 13 June 2023 – On June 13-14, 2023 with the assistance of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, a delegation of the RSE "Institute of Nuclear Physics" of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan headed by General Director S.Sakhiyev visited the CERN in Geneva.
The visit program began with a greeting from Joachim Mnich, Director of Research and Computing, Emmanuel Tsesmelis, Head of the Department for Relations with Associate Members and non-Member States of the European Union, Christoph Schafer, Senior Advisor for Relations with Kazakhstan, Tadeusz Kurtyka, Senior Advisor for International Relations, management representative of the NA62 collaboration Hans Danielsson and Physics coordinator of the NA62 Karim Massri. The Kazakh delegation also included Yerlan Alimbayev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva, Miras Shoiynbayev, Counsellor, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva, Yertay Khabiyev, First Secretary, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva and a junior researcher at the INP Ysmayil Kambar.
In the morning part of the program, K.Shafer spoke about CERN’s scientific activities and conducted a tour of the Synchrocyclotron. The spokesperson of the AEgIS collaboration, Michael Doser, informed the Kazakh side of the principles of operation and what the Antiproton Decelerator installation is intended for.
The culmination of the meeting was the official signing ceremony of the Addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding for the NA62 collaboration – Participation of the Institute of Nuclear Physics (Almaty, Kazakhstan) in the NA62 experiment. On the Kazakh side, the General Director of the INP of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan S.Sakhiev, signed his signature, and on the part of CERN, Director J.Mnich.
NA62 is an experiment on the derived beam of a Super–proton synchrotron at CERN, aimed at the so-called "golden" mode of decay of a charged K-meson into a P-meson and a neutrino-anti-neutrino pair. NA62 is a continuation of a series of previous high–precision experiments - NA48, NA48/1, NA48/2, which included the best experimental achievements of CERN.
In turn, S. Sakhiyev noted that there have already been several attempts to join the INP in CERN experiments and the last one turned out to be successful. It was also announced that the participation of the INP in NA62 is the first and at the same time an important step for domestic science, there will be a phased inclusion of other experiments in the work. It is worth noting that the European Center for Nuclear Research is an excellent international platform for the growth of a scientist as a specialist in his field, as well as the training of future personnel, using the full potential and international experience of CERN.
