The working meetings of the delegation from the INP at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) confirmed the mutual interest of both parties in developing academic mobility and implementing joint scientific initiatives.
On February 10,Sayabek Sakhiyev, Director General of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, held a series of meetings with MIT representatives aimed at deepening scientific collaboration and expanding cooperation formats.
The first meeting was with Ekaterina Zabrovski, Managing Director of the MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives (MISTI) program, overseeing MIT’s engagement with Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Lithuania. The parties reviewed the outcomes of the summer internship of an MIT student at INP, noting the success of this first exchange experience. The Director General emphasized the Institute’s readiness to expand the range of fields available for summer internships and hosting MIT students.
The second meeting took place at the MIT Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering with its Dean, Professor Benoit Forget. During the discussion, Kazakhstan’s plans for constructing its first nuclear power plants were presented, along with the results of research on in-core testing of advanced materials at the WWR-K research reactor.
Professor Forget, in turn, outlined the department’s priority research areas, including fission physics and thermonuclear fusion. The parties discussed opportunities for collaboration between the laboratories of the two institutes in radiation materials science and computational modeling of physical processes.
As a result of the meetings, an agreement was reached to further expand academic exchange and develop joint scientific initiatives.
