On 24 May, a delegation of experts from the United States Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) conducted a visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan on activities related to the security of radioactive sources.
The purpose of the visit was to assess the implementation of a project to build a storage facility for spent ionizing radiation sources, which was constructed at the Institute with the financial support of the US Department of Energy and Global Affairs (Canada) under the US-Kazakhstan Special Commission on Energy Partnership Program.
A meeting was held, during it report of the representatives of the Institute on the construction of the storage facility and the current activities for its operation was heard.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Nuclear and Energy Supervision Committee of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Association of Legal Entities “Scientific and Technical Center for the Safety of Nuclear Technologies”. The participants of the meeting visited the new repository and highly appreciated the implementation of this project.
