On October 17, the US Ambassador to Kazakhstan Daniel Rosenblum visited the Institute of Nuclear Physics to familiarize with the activities and strengthen cooperation. During the visit, the Ambassador visited the Nuclear Security Training Center, the WWR-K research reactor and the storage facility for spent sources of ionizing radiation, established within the framework of the partnership between Kazakhstan, the United States and Canada.
The Institute of Nuclear Physics has already implemented many successful projects within the cooperation between the United States of America and the Republic of Kazakhstan. They relate to modernization of the physical protection system, the conversion of the WWR-K reactor, establishment of the Nuclear Security Training Center and the projects in the field of training the radiation safety specialists. At the moment, the parties are working on a new large-scale project – establishment of a Regional Center for Nuclear Forensics at the Institute.
During the meeting, the Head of the Center for Integrated Environmental Research, Adilzhan Serikov informed the participants about the achievements in the field of nuclear forensics, emphasizing the importance of this area for regional and global security. The US Ambassador Daniel Rosenblum expressed the gratitude to the Institute’s staff for the warm welcome and expressed hope for further development of partnership relations, noting the importance of joint efforts in promoting nuclear security in the region.
