The Institute of Nuclear Physics was visited by a delegation of deputies of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan Asanova Zhanna Beisentaevna, Niyazova Nuria Ismagilovna, Shipovskikh Gennady Gennadievich, as well as deputies of the Maslikhat of Almaty city Dzhuzeeva Karashash Uzbekbaykyzy and Serikova Saltanat Bakhtiyarovna. The visit of the group of deputies began with an introductory presentation by General Director Sayabek Sakhiyev on the scientific and technical activities of the Institute. During the meeting, the General Director outlined about the history of establishment of INP, about 8 basic electrophysical facilities, about the main directions of INP activities such as development and application of nuclear and radiation technologies, production of radioisotope products for medicine and industry and about the publication achievements of scientific staff, noting that INP ranks first among research institutes of the Republic of Kazakhstan in terms of the number of published works in the database "Web of Science" for 5 years. During his speech, the General Director pointed out that the Institute has a an extensive experience in training personnel for the nuclear industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, emphasizing that the INP has all the necessary infrastructure for the training of specialists for NPPs, in particular, research stationary reactor, critical reactor assembly, accelerators of various types. Also on the basis of the Institute operates three training centers supported by the IAEA, which activities are to train personnel for the nuclear industry. The General Director also noted that a trilateral consortium agreement has been concluded between INP - Al-Farabi Kazakh National University - LLP "Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants ", in particular, which also implies training of personnel for NPP on the basis of the Institute. Getting acquainted with the activities of the Institute, the deputies proposed to discuss actual issues related to the activities of the INP. "We came to Institute as part of our deputy duties this is work in the regions. We have already visited a number of facilities. The President has put a task before the Parliament - it is interaction with the regions. Therefore, we want to review the questions that are relevant for you. This, in turn, will help us to form a request, that we collect as part of our aim", - said Zhanna Asanova, Deputy of the Senate of the RK. On this request, the General Director highlighted several actual issues. The first is the construction of a dormitory at the INP for students studying of the nuclear industry. He emphasized that the construction of the dormitory would not only solve the issues of personnel training for the future NPP but also provides conditions for young specialists to engage in science and develop the country's economy. Also Sayabek Sakhiyev has noted that the INP is the engine of nuclear medicine, but the Institute cannot produce a large number of radiopharmaceuticals due to restrictions concerning the air transportation of medications within Kazakhstan, as well as the lack of specialized medical centers and specialists. "The Institute of Nuclear Physics is the only organization that produces radiopharmaceuticals for the treatment of cancer. This is Iodine-131 for the treatment of thyroid cancer. Nowadays such treatment is available only at the Nuclear Medicine Center. It is equipped with only 15 "hot" beds. When a patient takes treatment he drinks radioactive solution and for the period of treatment he is a carrier of radiation and certainly he should be in special closed conditions with a special structure. This is a special sewage system and special services. We are ready to supply more to treat a large number of people," added Evgeny Yermakov, Deputy General Director for Production. At the meeting, issues on construction of a medical center at the INP, that was planned as early as 2006 were also discussed. In addition, the necessity to build a new research reactor to expand the production of medical isotopes, silicon doping for semiconductor production and material science research was noted. Further, the group of deputies visited the research reactor WWR-K. During the visit to the reactor, in the central hall the guests were acquainted with the main technical characteristics of the reactor, such as power, fuel type as well as with the main works performed at the reactor.
