On August 1-2, the INP delegation headed by General Director Sayabek Sakhiyev visited the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory (Illinois, USA). During the visit, the delegation visited a number of basic installations: the Natural Convection Shutdown Heat Removal Test Facility (NSTF), the Mechanisms Engineering Test Loop (METL) Facility, the Low-Energy Accelerator Facility (LEAF), the Argonne Tandem Linac Accelerator System (ATLAS), the Intermediate Voltage Electron Microscope (IVEM), and the Advanced Photon Source (APS). The General Director of INP presented to the attention of the general public of Argonne two presentations about the INP organization and the activities of the INP in the area of radioisotope production.
During a series of meetings with the leading scientists and the senior management of the laboratory, represented by its Director Paul Kearns and Associate Laboratory Director for Nuclear Technologies and National Security Kirsten Laurin-Kovitz, the parties noted with satisfaction the successful cooperation, in particular during implementation of the project for conversion of the WWR-K research reactor. They also discussed the expansion of cooperation on such topics as reactor building, design of small-module reactors, materials science, radiation-and-nuclear physics and nuclear safety. One of the important topics of discussion was the possibility to study the management experience, which is extremely important for implementation of the INP development strategy.
