Учёные ИЯФ включились в передовые исследования ЦЕРН

Kazakhstani physicists continue to strengthen the country's position in the world science. Specialists of the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) visited the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN, Geneva), where they took part in the key scientific areas and held the meetings on development of future cooperation. One of the important stages was work in the NA62 experiment, for the study of rare kaon decays. Kazakhstani specialists underwent "shift work" - duty to support the detector operation. Only those who have truly proven a high professional level receive such experience.

Participation in the new international collaboration DRD-1 (Detector Research and Development) was no less significant. The project is dedicated to the development of advanced technologies for gas detectors that will be used in the next-generation experiments. Inclusion of Kazakhstani scientists in this area indicates recognition of their contribution and involvement in the most modern research. In addition to practical work, the delegation held strategic meetings with the LHCb, SHiP and ATLAS collaborations — some of the largest projects at the Large Hadron Collider. These negotiations open up new horizons for Kazakhstan: from expanding international cooperation to possible official membership of the country in CERN.

Main results of the trip:

• strengthening the international presence of the INP;

• exchange of experience with the leading world experts;

• new prospects for young Kazakhstani physicists, engineers and programmers;

• access to unique technologies and data. The visit to CERN was an important step towards the integration of Kazakhstani science into the global research community in the field of high-energy physics.
