A technical meeting on cooperation among members of the Subregional Group of the International Network of Nuclear Security Training and Support Centers (NSSC Network) was held in Sofia, Bulgaria, from November 24 to 27, 2025. The University of National and World Economy, one of the leading and oldest universities in Bulgaria, hosted the meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was to facilitate coordination and cooperation among members of the Subregional Group of the NSSC Network, which includes Bulgaria, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Romania, and Ukraine.
Kazakhstan and Romania participated in this Subregional group for the first time, having joined the Subregional Group only in 2025. M.A. Idrissova, a representative of the Nuclear Security Training Center of the Institute of Nuclear Physics (NSTC), represented Kazakhstan at the meeting. In addition to representatives of the Subregional group countries, Rose Q., a staff member in the Division of Nuclear Security of the IAEA Department of Nuclear Safety and Security, participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, up-to-date information on the status and activities of the training centers of the Subregional Group countries was provided for the participants, and cooperation issues were discussed.
M.A. Idrissova presented a presentation on "Personnel Training at the Kazakhstan Nuclear Security Training Center," during which she described the work of the NSTC, which was established at the Institute of Nuclear Physics with the support of the National Nuclear Security Administration Department of Energy.
