The Institute hosted a training seminar on the rules for identifying and addressing conflicts of interest among employees while they are performing their work duties. The seminar was attended by Compliance Adviser to the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, Akshalov Dauren.
Conflicts of interest can harm the business reputation of a company and undermine its trustworthiness in the eyes of all stakeholders. It is important for employees to ensure that their personal interests do not influence their official duties, based on principles of impartiality, honesty, and protection of the company's interests.
Some signs of corruption risk that Akshalov mentioned:
Family connections (direct or indirect subordination of relatives)
Affiliation with suppliers or contractors
Affiliation with debtors
Affiliation with senior management
Violations of the procedure for competitive bidding (price distortions, barriers, etc.)
Collusion between suppliers/contractors
Incomplete and unreliable declaration of conflicts of interest
The Compliance Officer of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, Mr. Akshalov, explained to employees of the company how to deal with conflicts of interest. He gave examples and emphasized the importance of employees renouncing their personal interests and not using information that could be used to their benefit. In general, employees should avoid situations where they have a direct or indirect conflict of interest with the company. If a conflict is unavoidable, they should inform management. Summarizing the above, it is necessary to inform an employee about a conflict between their official duties and personal interests. This is to ensure that employees of the company are aware of any conflict of interest and report it according to the procedure approved by the company's internal documents. During the seminar, General Director Sahiyev emphasized the importance of strengthening methods to resolve conflicts of interest and increasing the effectiveness of their prevention. He also urged the company's employees to continue working towards this goal.
