The workshop was organized in collaboration with the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) as part of the regional project “CONTACT Central Asia: Enhancing Capacities to Prevent the Illicit Trafficking of Radiological and Nuclear Material in the Central Asia region,” with financial support from the Government of Norway.

At the opening of the workshop, Sayabek Sakhiyev, Director General of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, addressed the participants with a welcoming word, briefly outlining the Institute's main activities.

The purpose of the regional training workshop was to strengthen capacity to prevent illicit trafficking of radioactive and nuclear materials in the Central Asian region.
