An International Workshop entitled "Prospects for Joint Training of Research Personnel and Expanding International Scientific Cooperation" was held in Almaty at the Tien Shan High Mountain Research Station (TSHMS). The event was attended by the representatives from the leading scientific centers in Kazakhstan and abroad, reaffirming the country's growing role in the global scientific agenda. The representatives from the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP), the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Institute of Ionosphere, and the Institut Laue-Langevin (France) participated in the workshop. Opening the event, TSHMS Director Valeriy Zhukov emphasized the strategic importance of strengthening scientific ties and launching joint research initiatives. Nurzhan Saduyev, Deputy Director General for Science at the INP, noted the key role of training young specialists in nuclear physics and related disciplines. Medeu Abishev, Head of the Department of Theoretical and Nuclear Physics at KazNU, spoke on behalf of the academic community, outlining the priorities for developing educational and scientific cooperation.
Reports from the JINR representatives took center stage in the scientific program. Yevgeniy Yakushev, Director of the V.P. Jelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems, presented the key research areas, including neutrino physics, the study of nuclear interactions, and the development of detector technologies. Sergey Shmatov, Director of the M.G. Meshcheryakov Laboratory of Information Technologies, discussed modern computing infrastructure and opportunities for international collaboration in the processing and analysis of scientific data.
The participation of Valeriy Nesvizhevsky, a researcher at the Institut Laue-Langevin, made a significant contribution to the discussion, highlighting the high level of international collaboration and the interest of European research centers in joint projects.
Following the workshop, the participants noted the high potential for developing joint educational programs, the need to expand academic mobility for students and young scientists, and the prospects for implementing interdisciplinary research projects. Particular attention was paid to the integration of the TSHMS experimental facilities into international research and the initiative to create a new large-scale research facility based on straw technologies developed at the INP as part of an international collaboration.
The uniqueness of the Tien Shan High-Mountain Research Station as a key platform for research in cosmic rays and high-energy physics was particularly emphasized. The workshop was an important step in strengthening the scientific partnerships and establishing sustainable mechanisms for interaction between Kazakhstan's scientific organizations and international centers, laying the foundation for new joint projects and the training of highly qualified specialists in nuclear- and astro-physics.
