The technical exchange “Response Force Case Studies/Vulnerability Assessment for Response” was held on August 22-26, 2022 in the Nuclear Security Training Center, Institute of Nuclear Physics, The event was organized as part of the cooperation between the International Nuclear Security of the National Nuclear Security Administration of the US Department of Energy and the Committee for Nuclear and Energy Supervision and Control of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The purpose of the seminar was to share experience and establish cooperation between stakeholders to improve the efficiency of nuclear security in Kazakhstan, build capacity and identify possible gaps in the field of nuclear security.
The technical exchange was intended for specialists from State Authorities, National Guard, Atomic Energy Enterprises responsible for managing and organizing activities to ensure nuclear security. As part of the technical exchange, experts from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory of the US Department of Energy analyzed and discussed practical examples of terrorist attacks that occurred in India, the United States and Africa. The representatives of the US Department of Energy Office, the US Embassy in Nur-Sultan took part in the seminar as observers.
As a result of the seminar, 17 Kazakhstani specialists received certificates.
