September 24-26, 2025, The Nuclear Safety Training Center of the Institute of Nuclear Physics held a Follow-up Training Course on reactor engineering within the framework of the "Instructor Training Program" (ITP)

Kunihiko Nabeshima, Professor of the Nuclear Human Resources Development Center (NuHRDeC) of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) took part in this course. He gave lectures on the topics "Small Modular Reactors" and "AI Technology in Nuclear Energy".

he course was attended by 15 people. Reports were made by the representatives of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, students from KazNU and the Kazakh State Women's Pedagogical University participated. The reports covered the following topics:

  • Basics of the Reactor Physics

  • Neutron Imaging at the WWR-K Research Reactor

  • Gas filled and scintillation detectors used in experimental nuclear physics research

  • Radioactive waste management

  • Neutronic Analysis of the ALFRED Lead-Cooled Fast Reactor Using OpenMC Monte Carlo Code

  • Current state of research work at the WWR-K Research Reactor

  • Neutron Reflectometry

  • Neutron activation analysis in INP

  • Application of the Critical Facility for scientific and applied tasks

  • Concept of the UCN Source at the WWR-K Research Reactor

On the first day, A. Uspenskaya, Head of the International Cooperation Office, gave an opening speech. During the course, participants took a technical tour around the INP facilities.
