On April 7-11, 2025, the seminar on " Search and Security of Orphan Sources " was held at the Nuclear Security Training Center of the INP. The training was organized by the Office of Radiological Security of the National Nuclear Security Administration of the U.S. Department of Energy within the framework of the Kazakhstan-US cooperation.
The purpose of the seminar is to improve skills in planning the search for orphan sources, managing the search, working with radiation detection devices, and familiarizing with the procedures for orphan radioactive sources searching. The seminar was intended for managers and specialists of government agencies and enterprises of the Kazakhstan nuclear industry. The training covered issues of standard procedures for organizing and conducting search operations, preparing for the orphan radioactive sources search (drawing up a plan, forming search teams, preparing and packing equipment), optimizing the search, conducting search operations, and compiling a report. The seminar included theoretical and practical field training on sources searching. On the final day of the seminar, radiation monitoring equipment was donated to the Institute.
