From September 7 to 11, 2026, the INP Nuclear Security Training Center (NSTC) conducted another training course for Kazakhstani specialists on the Fundamentals of nuclear material accounting and control.
The course aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to establish and manage nuclear material accounting and control system at their facilities.
As part of the course, NSTC instructors conducted theoretical, practical, and demonstration sessions and organized a familiarization tour of the Center’s facilities and training grounds.
The theoretical component covered the requirements of Kazakhstan’s regulatory framework and IAEA recommendations, the fundamental principles and elements of system design, system management and sustainability, and the interaction between nuclear material accounting and control and physical protection systems.
During practical sessions, participants strengthened their skills in maintaining accounting and reporting documentation, conducted a physical inventory and inspection of the training storage facility, and practiced response procedures for identified irregularities and anomalies. The course also included an analysis of three emergency incidents that had occurred at nuclear facilities. Reviewing real-world scenarios allowed participants to apply their knowledge, assess potential risks, and determine appropriate response measures.
Participants also visited the WWR-K research reactor, where they learned about its key technical specifications and the research and operational activities carried out there.
Fourteen specialists from uranium mining enterprises involved in nuclear material accounting and control activities received certificates upon successful completion of the course.
