A meeting was held at the Institute of Nuclear Physics between Director General Sayabek Sakhiyev and a delegation from the Japanese company Chiyoda Technol Corporation (CTC), led by Deputy Director General Mimura Koichi. The meeting focused on the launch of the Phase 2 of a Project to monitor individual radiation doses of residents living near the WWR-K research reactor using Japanese-made D-Shuttle personal dosimeters.
The Phase 1 of the project, completed in 2024, made an important contribution to developing open communication with local residents and increasing trust in radiation safety issues.
The Institute of Nuclear Physics is currently considering the possibility of implementing the Phase 2 of this project. This initiative follows the replacement of the filtration unit at the WWR-K research reactor in 2025, which improved the reliability and efficiency of the reactor and improved radiation safety. The meeting also discussed the use of Japanese experience in nuclear energy. Japan operates 33 nuclear reactors, and this experience could be used in future projects to develop its national nuclear energy sector.
Furthermore, the parties discussed the potential areas of cooperation, including training radiation safety specialists for the future nuclear power plant at the INP, as well as the supply of molybdenum-99 radioisotope and other radiopharmaceuticals.
