During the period from March 10 to 14, 2024, the Head of the Laboratory of Nuclear Energy Safety Problems, Shaimerdenov Asset, took part in the IAEA Technical Meeting on sharing experience of shipment highly enriched uranium from research reactors, which took place in Budapest, Hungary.
The meeting was attended by representatives from 19 countries, who discussed the experience of shipment highly enriched uranium from research reactors and lessons learned. The meeting also discussed the content, gaps and necessary amendments of the IAEA technical document (TECDOC), which is planned to be issued as a result of this meeting. On March 14, 2024, a technical tour was organized to the Center for Energy Research, where the meeting participants visited and learned about the activities of the Budapest Neutron Center, the Nuclear Forensics Laboratory and the Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Site.
