The Security Colloquium was held in the capital of Jordan, Amman, which became an important platform for open exchange of views on current issues of nuclear security, nuclear disarmament and radiation safety.
The experts gathered for an active dialogue in a live communication format to discuss outstanding problems and issues of concern to everyone. During the panel sessions, a specialist of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Acting Head of the EIA&EM (LIE, CIER) Diana Akhmetzhanova made a report on the topic “Experience in ensuring nuclear and radiation safety at the facilities of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and its extension to future nuclear power plants in the Republic of Kazakhstan”. The report covered the issue of a nuclear power plant construction, for which Kazakhstan is guided by nuclear and radiation safety, based on the existing experience in operating the reactor WWR-K.
The Forum participants considered the ways to reduce nuclear risks and enhance a common vision of disarmament, as well as possible mechanisms for strengthening the elements of non-proliferation without violating the rights of states to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. This event provided an opportunity to exchange views on the compatibility and complementarity of the main international legal documents in the field of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, to ask questions of interest and receive detailed answers to them.
