On 27th March 2023, the Nuclear Security Training Center at INP launched a training course, “Nuclear and Other Radioactive Materials beyond Regulatory Control: The Role of Nuclear Forensics”. The course is organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Committee of Atomic and Energy Supervision and Control (CAESC) of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At the opening of the training course, the General Director of INP Sayabek Sakhiyev wished success to the participants and thanked the organizers.
— I would like to thank the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Committee of Atomic and Energy Supervision and Control, and staff of the INP, who organized the training course and wish success to the participants. The Nuclear Security Training Center is the third training center opened with the support of the IAEA, and next year a nuclear forensics center plans to open at the Institute of Nuclear Physics.
Also, CAESC representative Baimurat Tyshtykbaev expressed gratitude to those who supported the organization of the course, which had been planned for a long time and had just been implemented.
In all, 14 participants are taking part in the training course. Instructor-teachers from Kazakhstan, Moldova and Romania will conduct practical and lecture work on topics such as "Basic Features of Nuclear Expertise," "Development of Nuclear Forensic Capacity," and others.
By the way, nuclear forensics deals with the study of nuclear and other radioactive materials using analytical methods to determine the origin and history of these materials in the context of law enforcement investigations or assessments of nuclear security weaknesses.
