On December 8-19, 2025, the training course on “Physical Protection Systems for First Line Managers” is conducting at the Nuclear Security Training Center of the Institute of Nuclear Physics (NSTC). The training is organized in the framework of cooperation with the Threat Reduction Agency of the US Department of Defense under the “Cooperative Threat Reduction” Program.
At the opening of the course, Sayabek Sakhiev, INP Director General addressed the participants with a welcoming word, briefly outlining the Institute's main activities, including the three training centers. Also speaking were Eugen Kavalenka, DTRO-RCEO Deputy Director at the US Embassy in Astana, and Alexander Vasilev, Project Manager, Branch of “URS Federal Services International, Inc.” in Kazakhstan.
The purpose of the training course is to study physical protection measures, including management and leadership principles, threats and risks, the fundamentals of physical protection system design, the fundamentals of transportation security, maintaining a physical protection system, and testing a physical protection system. US and Kazakhstan instructors conduct theoretical lessons and table top exercises as part of the course.
The target audience for the Course is specialists from government authorities and nuclear industry enterprises involved in the management, organization, and physical protection of nuclear facilities, as well as those responsible for nuclear facility security. A total of 17 Kazakhstan specialists from CASC, INP, KNPP, UMP, Ulba-TVS, NNC, and representatives of the National Guard are participating.
