Meeting Between the Leadership of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and the Delegation of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency

On June 2, as part of the JINR Days in Kazakhstan, marking the 20th anniversary of the Astana branch, a meeting was held between the leadership of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and a delegation from the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). At the invitation of the JNP, JAEA President Masanori Koguchi visited the capital and led the delegation. During the meeting, the JAEA President presented the Japan's national decarbonization program through 2050, which calls for expanding the role of nuclear energy in building a carbon-free society. JAEA, as the government's scientific and technical support organization, is called upon to play a key role in achieving these goals. Masanori Koguchi emphasized that achieving these targets is impossible without international cooperation and particularly noted Kazakhstan's contribution to the development of nuclear technology, a country with extensive expertise in the nuclear field. The INP and JAEA have a long history of mutually beneficial cooperation: joint research in high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) technology and nuclear energy in general, as well as seminars and training courses on reactor technology and radiation monitoring. ?Following the talks, the parties agreed to expand the range of joint research projects, explore new perspective areas of collaboration, and strengthen existing partnerships.
