Maintenance of Physical Protection Systems

To ensure reliable security at a nuclear facility, regular maintenance of physical protection system equipment is necessary.

Modern physical protection systems, including video surveillance, access control, and alarm systems, are constantly being improved and require specialized knowledge and skills for their configuration, diagnostics, and repair. Regular practical training and advanced personnel training help reduce response times to emergencies and technical failures, thereby contributing to enhanced facility security.

From September 14 to 18, 2026, the Nuclear Security Training Center (NSTC) of the INP conducted a course for Kazakhstani specialists on "Planning and Conducting Maintenance Work on Physical Protection Systems."

The course included both theoretical and practical training. Participants were introduced to safety rules for technical work, including fire and electrical safety regulations, as well as requirements for working at height. The course also covered the planning and conduction of maintenance activities, relevant maintaining documentation, and the analysis of performed work.

A significant portion of the training was devoted to practical exercises. Under the guidance of instructors, participants performed maintenance and diagnosed physical protection system equipment, identified faults, and carried out minor repairs. As part of the training, INP Director General Sayabek Sakhiev presented to the students the Institute's activities and plans for its future development.

Additionally, participants visited the WWR-K research reactor, where they learned about its key technical specifications, as well as the research and operational activities carried out there.

Following the testing result, sixteen specialists from Kazakhstan uranium mining enterprises received certificates of successful completion of the course.
