Kazakhstan and the United States Strengthen Partnership in Global Nuclear Security

On June 13, 2025, a US delegation visited the Institute of Nuclear Physics. The delegation included representatives of the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), employees of the DTRA Office at the US Embassy in Astana, and representatives of URS Federal Services International Inc., an integrating contractor.

The purpose of the visit was to introduce the Kazakhstan partners with the results of the tender for the selection of a contractor by the DTRA responsible for the further implementation of the Global Nuclear Security program. Based on the results of this tender, URS Federal Services International Inc. was selected as the integrating contractor.

The working meeting was held at the Nuclear Security Training Center in INP. During the visit, priority areas of cooperation for the period 2025-2029 were discussed within the framework of the new contract for the implementation of a joint threat reduction program. The parties have agreed to hold a detailed discussion this July on a programme implementation plan, which includes organising courses and trainings at the NSTC and provision of support to INP in strengthening physical protection of its strategic infrastructure.x
