Kazakh-Serbian scientific cooperation discussed in Belgrade

Belgrade, July 8, 2026 — As part of a working visit to the Republic of Serbia, a delegation from the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Republic of Kazakhstan, led by Director General Sayabek Sakhiyev, visited the Vinča Institute, where a meeting was held dedicated to the prospects for developing scientific cooperation and exchanging experience in nuclear science and the peaceful atomic energy. During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibility of implementing joint research projects, expanding professional contacts, and developing international partnerships. The Kazakh delegation also included the Leading Researcher Yerzhan Mukhamejanov and Second Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Republic of Serbia Seyilkhan Aubakirov.

The Kazakh delegation made a presentation on the activities of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which will celebrate its 70th anniversary next year.

Today, the INP employs approximately 700 people and is the country's only research organization in the field of peaceful nuclear energy, providing a full cycle of research and development—from fundamental and applied research to technology development and production. The institute's activities make a significant contribution to the development of science and technology, as well as the application of nuclear technology for healthcare.

Such contacts contribute to strengthening cooperation between the scientific institutions in Kazakhstan and Serbia, sharing cutting-edge knowledge, and promoting joint initiatives in scientific and technical fields.

During a visit on July 7,Sayabek Sakhiyev, Director General of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Republic of Kazakhstan, was received by Madi Atamkulov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Serbia. During the meeting, prospects for developing Kazakh-Serbian cooperation in science, innovation, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to the interaction between the Institute of Nuclear Physics of Kazakhstan and the Serbian research centers, expanding the exchange of experience between the scientists, and implementing joint research projects.

Ambassador Madi Atamkulov noted the importance of scientific diplomacy as an element in strengthening bilateral relations and expressed the Embassy's readiness to provide comprehensive assistance in developing direct contacts between the relevant scientific institutions of two countries.

Following the meetings, the parties expressed confidence that further development of cooperation between the scientific institutions of Kazakhstan and Serbia will facilitate the implementation of joint projects, the exchange of cutting-edge knowledge, and the strengthening of partnerships in science and technology.
