Institute of Nuclear Physics signed a Memorandum with the University of Nevada

On January 13, a delegation of the Institute of Nuclear Physics led by General Director Sayabek Sakhiyev visited the Radiochemical Laboratory Complex at the University of Nevada (Las Vegas).

During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of Nuclear Physics and the University of Nevada was signed, and the main areas of cooperation were discussed, including the program of training of Master's Degree Students and Doctoral students from Kazakhstan and organization of scientific internships for specialists of the Institute in the sphere of “Radiochemistry” on the basis of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the University of Nevada.

After the business meeting, the Director of the Radiochemistry Program at the University of Nevada, Artem Gelis, conducted a tour of the Radiochemical Laboratory Complex and introduced the delegation to the main activities of the research program.

Due to the negative growth in the number of cancer patients, Kazakhstan needs highly qualified personnel in radiochemistry to master and develop new methods of radiopharmaceutical production. The most promising projects for the Institute are the fragmentation method of molybdenum-99 isotope production on low-enriched target and the production of actinium-225 isotope.

These areas are an important factor in the development of national medicine and science.
