Insider Threat Mitigation Program

The Insider Threat Mitigation for Nuclear Facility Workshop was hosted on April 22-25, 2024 at the Nuclear Security Training Center, INP. The training was organized by the US Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration Office of International Nuclear Security in cooperation with the Committee of Atomic and Energy Supervision and Control of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The purpose of the Workshop is familiarizing participants with an overview of possible insider threats at nuclear facilities, associated risks and study tools to mitigate them. The Workshop was intended for specialists of the state authorities, nuclear facilities of Kazakhstan involved in the development and enforcement of policies and rules in the field of nuclear security, design and implementation of physical protection systems, accounting and control of nuclear materials. During the training, instructors from the National Laboratories of the US Department of Energy and Kazakhstan conducted theoretical and practical classes. An introductory tour of NSTC was also organized for the participants.

As a result of the workshop, 14 Kazakhstan specialists were awarded certificates of successful completion of the training.
