On May 29, 2025, a delegation from the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) from Almaty led by the Director General Sayabek Sakhiyev visited the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). As part of the intensive program, the INP representatives held the meetings and negotiations with the leading scientists of the laboratory, visited the advanced scientific facilities and discussed the prospects for international cooperation.
During the visit, special attention was paid to the flagship Project of the Laboratory — the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), which will become one of the largest and most advanced facilities in the world of nuclear physics for studying the structure of nucleons and fundamental interactions of matter. The possible areas of cooperation, as well as the participation of INP scientists in the key experiments and scientific collaborations based on EIC, were discussed in details during the meeting with the heads and leading researchers of the BNL.
The parties discussed a number of perspective tasks, including joint work in the international ePIC collaboration, the participation of Kazakhstan’s specialists in design and creation of detectors for the EIC, the development of theoretical research, as well as the organization of scientific internships and exchanges for young scientists and students of the INP.
The final meeting with the BNL Director of Scientific Programs John Hill marked the consolidation of general agreements on expanding partnerships, including the entry of INP scientists into the international EIC Users Group. This opens up the additional prospects for integration of the Kazakhstan’s researchers into the advanced world science, and also promotes the development of new research areas at the Institute of Nuclear Physics.
