On January 29, a meeting with the representatives of the Women in Nuclear Central Asia (WINCA) network was held at the Astana branch of the Institute of Nuclear Physics. Main topics of the meeting were issues of developing nuclear security and radiation safety, training personnel, and expanding international cooperation.
During the visit, the guests learned about the activities of the Astana branch and toured laboratories and research facilities, including the unique DC-60 accelerator complex, designed for fundamental and applied research using heavy ion beams.
The branch's management presented information on key scientific results and achievements of recent years. Particular attention was paid to the training of highly qualified specialists for nuclear science and industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the development of youth initiatives, and the strengthening of international scientific cooperation.
In the context of the WINCA mission, it was emphasized that women make up approximately 40% of the staff at the Astana branch of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and are actively involved in scientific research, international projects, and the training of young specialists for the nuclear industry.
Key guests at the meeting included representatives of international and national organizations in the nuclear industry and safety, including experts from leading international research centers, WINCA coordinators in Central Asian countries, government representatives from the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, and leaders and specialists from relevant scientific and analytical organizations.
Following the meeting, the parties discussed internship programs, training of young specialists, and prospects for further collaboration between the Institute of Nuclear Physics and the WINCA network.
