Meeting was held in Tokyo between a delegation of the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP), led by Director General Sayabek Sakhiyev, and Masanori Koguchi, President of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). The Kazakh side was also represented by Aidana Marat, Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The President of JAEA highly praised the level of bilateral cooperation and informed the INP delegation of a planned visit by a JAEA team to Almaty in March 2026.

In addition, INP Director General Sayabek Sakhiyev proposed three new prospective areas of cooperation:

• research and development in hydrogen production;

• R&D in the field of nuclear battery development and manufacturing;

• production of the molybdenum-99 radioisotope using the fission method and its supply to the Japanese market.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Japanese side was invited to participate in an international conference dedicated to the anniversary of the Astana branch of the INP, scheduled to be held in June 2026.
