INP and JAEA confirmed their interest in further developing cooperation in training human resources for the nuclear industry.
The Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) confirmed their interest in further developing cooperation in training human resources for the nuclear industry. The corresponding agreements were reached following a Steering Committee Meeting of the Instructor Training Program (ITP), held in Almaty on July 21–22.
During the meeting, the parties summarized their long-standing collaboration, discussed the results of the Instructor Training Course (ITC) and Follow-up Training Course (FTC) Training Programs, and identified priority areas for future partnership. During the delegation's visit, Sayabek Sakhiyev, Director General of the INP, presented the INP's main activities, including scientific research, laboratory operations, and ongoing projects.
The focus is on improving specialist training, expanding educational initiatives, and developing new forms of collaboration. One of the key areas of cooperation remains the Instructor Training Course (ITC) program, implemented by JAEA in Japan.
The course aims to train specialists capable of not only applying modern knowledge and technologies but also sharing them with colleagues upon their return to Japan. The three- to six-week program covers Reactor Engineering, Nuclear and Radiation Accident Preparedness, and Environmental Radioactivity Monitoring.
Since 2013, nine specialists of the Institute of Nuclear Physics have completed the ITC program. Three more specialists will join the program in 2026.
Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the Follow-up Training Course (FTC), for dissemination of acquired knowledge within the native countries. The courses are provided by the specialists previously trained at JAEA, with the methodological support of Japanese experts.
In 2026, two FTC courses were held at the Institute: Environmental Radioactivity Monitoring Course on 1-4 June, Reactor Engineering Course on 8-11 June.
The FTC program was implemented at the Institute from 2011 to 2014, after which it was temporarily suspended. Since 2023, the courses have resumed and are offered annually. Additionally, JAEA specialists read two to three lectures at the Institute annually.
