From September 4th to 8th, a regional seminar titled "Regional Workshop on Electron Beam Facility Operation and Use" dedicated to the operation and use of industrial electron accelerators took place at the Nuclear Safety Training Center of the Institute of Nuclear Physics. The seminar was organized within the framework of the project RER 1021 "Enhancing the Use of Radiation Technologies in Industry and Environment" by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Scientists and specialists fromHungary, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Russia and Kazakhstan participated in the seminar.
The aim of the event was to discuss and exchange practical experience in operating electron beam facilities and using radiation technologies for medical, industrial, agricultural, environmental, research and design purposes.
The work of the regional seminar was opened with a welcoming speech by the General Director of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Sayabek Kuanyshbekovich Sakhiyev. He wished the participants constructive and productive discussions, introduced them to the institute's activities and scientific-technical capabilities, emphasizing that the institute is one of the leading research institutions in the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of the nuclear industry, conducting a full cycle of research and design work. He mentioned about international partnerships with over 30 countries, Kazakhstan's integration into international mega-science projects like NA-62, HIKE, collaboration with MIT, the production of a range of radioisotopes, radiation treatments, the necessity of building a new research reactor at the institute and ongoing negotiations and international collaborations with NA64, n_TOF (CERN) and DUNE (Fermilab, USA).
The Chairman of the Board of JSC "Science Fund" Abdilda Atamuratovich Shamenov presented to the participants the mechanisms of state support for promising projects related to the commercialization of scientific and/or scientific and technical activities in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Chairman of the Board of JSC "Nuclear Technology Park", Alexander Nikolaevich Borisenko and the Deputy Chairman of the Board Murat Tleuzhanovich Kasymzhanov introduced the main areas of activity of JSC "Nuclear Technology Park," as well as the products and services produced using radiation technologies.
The seminar program featured presentations dedicated to the application of electron accelerators for sterilizing medical products in industry, agriculture and for environmental purposes. Specialists from the Institute of Nuclear Physics shared their experience in the safe and effective operation of radiation facilities, optimization of radiation technologies and the implementation of new ideas in the field of radiation technologies. As part of the seminar, the progress of the implementation of project AR15573845, "Establishment of a Production Area for Medical Hydrogel Dressings," carried out within the framework of grant funding for the commercialization of the results of scientific and/or scientific and technical activities financed by the funds of the State Institution "Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan" was presented.
