IAEA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF NUCLEAR AND RADIOLOGICAL LEADERSHIP IN KAZAKHSTAN

The IAEA International School of Nuclear and Radiological Leadership for Safety, under the motto "Training the Leaders of a Safer Tomorrow", was held at the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INP) from 25 to 29 August 2025.

The event took place at the INP Nuclear Security Training Centre. During the five-day course, the leading IAEA experts trained 23 participants from the following 11 Member States: Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Croatia and Estonia.

The objective of the IAEA School was to train early- and mid-career professionals in leadership skills in nuclear and radiological safety and to develop their capacity for safety leadership. The training programme was based on the principles of leadership and management for safety, as set out in the IAEA Safety Standards Series No.GSR Part 2. The opening ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Committee for Nuclear Supervision and Control of the Kazakhstan Agency of Atomic Energy D. Aliakparov, Deputy Director General of the INP for Production Y. Yermakov and Director of the Department of Nuclear, Radiation and Environmental Safety M. Tulegenov.

Director of the IAEA Office for Nuclear Safety and Physical Protection Coordination Fuming Jiang noted: "The goal of this leadership school is to strengthen leadership skills in the field of safety, to foster a safety culture and create a global network of specialists committed to the highest standards of nuclear and radiological safety". The School’s curriculum contributes to global nuclear and radiological safety through enhanced capacity building efforts.

Upon completion, the participants were awarded the appropriate certificates.
