IAEA Inspection

As part of the implementation of the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the International Atomic Energy Agency for the application of Safeguards in connection with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (hereinafter referred to as the Agreement), a scheduled IAEA inspection was conducted at the Institute of Nuclear Physics from April 27 to 29, 2026. The IAEA safeguards system is a system for verifying compliance with international obligations for the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

The purpose of the inspection was to verify the location, quantity, and composition of nuclear material at the Institute, as well as design information of the WWR-K reactor.

During the inspection, IAEA Safeguards Department’s inspectors identified nuclear materials, performed non-destructive testing measurements on nuclear material batches, resealed containers with nuclear materials, and examined accounting records.

The IAEA inspection once again confirmed the Institute's proper compliance with its obligations for the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
