Frombasic and applied research to radioisotope production: Kazakhstanand Hungary strengthen cooperation in the nuclear industry

On May 16, the Institute of Nuclear Physics and theHUN-REN Center for Energy Research - one of Europe's leading scientific centers in the field of nuclear science - signed a memorandum of understanding todevelop joint research projects and improve nuclear and radiation safety, and train qualified personnel for the nuclear industry.

The document was signed by Mr. Sayabek Sakhiyev, Director General of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, and Dr. Akos Horvath,Director of the HUN-REN EK Center for Energy Research.

The agreement covers a wide range of areas, including:

  • joint research on the characterizing materials for nuclear and fusion reactors;
  • development and introduction of neutron devices for beam research;
  • training of Kazakhstani nuclear specialists on the basis of the HUN-REN Center;
  • intensified cooperation in the field of nuclear forensics, including the exchange ofmethods, inter-laboratory studies, and participation in international training programs;
  • developmentand production of radioisotopes for medicine;
  • development of research reactors;
  • joint studiesand assessments for new NPPs, including site selection, safety analysis, licensing and environmental impact assessment. As emphasized by Mr. Sayabek Sakhiyev, DirectorGeneral of INP, the signing of the memorandum has become a strong foundation for a long-term partnership. This partnership will enable the introduction ofadvanced scientific developments, enhance nuclear safety and train qualified personnel for Kazakhstan's nuclear industry.

Cooperation with one of the leading Europeanscientific institutions opens up new opportunities for Kazakhstan in the field of international integration, exchange of experience, and development ofhigh-tech solutions in the field of nuclear science.
