On April 8, the Institute of Nuclear Physics held the first meeting of its Program Advisory Committee (PAC), bringing together the leading scientists and experts from Japan, the United States, the Republic of Korea, France, Hungary, Turkey, and the international organization JINR. The creation of the PAC was a strategic step for shaping the Institute's long-term scientific and technological policy and integrating it into the global scientific community.
Opening the meeting, Sayabek Sakhiyev, Director General of the Institute, emphasized that establishment of the PAC marks a new stage of development: "Establishment of the Program Advisory Committee is an important step for the systematic development of the Institute's scientific fields. International expertise will allow us to build research to world standards and develop the projects of global significance".
At the meeting, the Institute's key areas of activity, defining its scientific strategy, were presented. The focus is on the development of a multipurpose research reactor, which will serve as the basis for a wide range of fundamental and applied research, including materials science, nuclear physics, and radiation technology.
A separate section was devoted to the scientific journal "Advances in Nuclear Science and Applications", which is considered an international platform for publishing the cutting-edge research results and promoting the Institute's scientific achievements globally.
Participants were particularly interested in the AlSUN mega-science project, which envisions the creation of a high-intensity ultracold and very cold neutron source based on the WWR-K reactor. This project opens up fundamentally new opportunities for conducting unique experiments in fundamental physics and related disciplines.
Following the meeting, members of the PAC highly assessed the Institute's scientific potential, presented an expert opinion, and developed the recommendations for the further development of its key research areas.
