Discussion of cooperation development between INP and JINR

On February 14, within the framework of the visit of the Kazakhstan delegation to JINR, a meeting was held between the General Director of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Government of Kazakhstan at JINR Sayabek Sakhiyev and the Director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna) Grigoriy Trubnikov.

The meeting covered the discussion of the issues of cooperation development, the possibility of holding joint events and JINR's readiness to participate in the development of the infrastructure of INP (Almaty) and training of the personnel for the scientific centers of Kazakhstan.

Currently, Kazakhstan’s specialists are involved in a wide range of JINR scientific research in nuclear physics, from the synthesis of superheavy elements to production of ultralight isotopes, as well as production of track membranes. In addition, they work in the area of accelerator physics, theoretical research and radiation materials science. The specialists from the Republic of Kazakhstan make a significant contribution to the NICA Project.

“Dubna is indeed our common scientific home. As I always say, it is extremely important to use atomic energy only for peaceful purposes. And one of the brightest examples of this is the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research.” emphasized General Director Sayabek Sakhiyev.

The contribution of JINR to design and equipping of the INP branch in Astana was noted, where the isochronous cyclotron DC-60 is currently being modernized by the joint efforts. About 150 young scientists from Kazakhstan defended the diplomas, dissertations and excelled their qualifications at the JINR.

“We are proud of the national group of Kazakhstan at JINR. The scientific diaspora of Kazakhstan in JINR is almost 90 people. This is a very sustainable research team.” said Grigoriy Trubnikov.

The meeting was also attended by the Heads of Departments of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Director of the Kazakh National Research Technical University, the members of the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Russian Federation and the Head of the national group at the JINR.

After the meeting, the delegation from Kazakhstan visited the NICA accelerator complex at the Laboratory of High Energy Physics at the JINR.

This week, the delegation is scheduled to meet with the national group of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the JINR, as well as the participation of the delegation in the work of the JINR Scientific Council.
