The INP delegation, including General Director Sayabek Sakhiyevand Head of the Center for Integrated Environmental Research Adilzhan Serikov, visited the office of the Canadian Embassy in Kazakhstan, Mr. Alan Hamson.
It should be noted that in 2023, the Ambassador Alan Hamson visited the INP for the opening ceremony of the Radioactive Waste Disposal Facility.
During the meeting in February, General Director Sayabek Sakhiyev has informed the Ambassador about the current state of works at the Institute, in particular, about the future project on ultra-cold neutrons (UCN) and the UCN Workshop planned in April 2024.
Currently, the Institute is working on development and creation of a high-intensity source of UCN and very cold neutrons (VCN) based on the WWR-K research reactor. Preliminary calculations have shown that this UCN source has every chance of becoming the highest-intensity source in the world and the first Mega-Science class facility in Kazakhstan. As part of this project, the INP will hold an International Workshop on the source of UCN and VCN and their application at the INP in the period from 8 to 11 April 2024. More than 30 scientists and the most well-known international experts from the leading nuclear centers in South and North America, Europe and Asia were invited to this event. The Workshop participants will discuss ideas for development and potential problems in creating UCN and VCN sources at the INP, the prospects for their use in present and future experiments, and also share experience in organizing the international application of such facilities.
The Ambassador Alan Hamson was also invited to this event.
