On March 4, as part of their visit to Astana, a delegation from the Institute visited the National Scientific Oncology Center.
The Oncology Center, equipped with state-of-the-art high-tech equipment, is set to begin operations this summer.
The new medical facility, designed to serve 6,000 patients annually, will conduct radionuclide diagnostics, produce radiopharmaceuticals, and provide radionuclide therapy.
The Center’s management highlighted that thanks to this facility, Kazakhstan will become the first in Central Asia to offer proton therapy for cancer patients in the future.
During the visit, the delegation toured the radiopharmaceutical production unit, which houses a cyclotron and clean production facilities with hot cells; the proton therapy unit, equipped with a proton accelerator and installation for therapeutic procedures; and patient rooms with “hot beds,” where thyroid cancer treatment using iodine-131 radioisotope therapy will be conducted.
