Delegation of the Border Academy of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan Visits the Institute

The Institute of Nuclear Physics was visited by a delegation from the Border Academy of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NSC RK), headed by the Academy’s Chief, Pavel Polivanov. Notably, last year the Institute and the Border Academy of the NSC RK signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of modern technology transfer and the organization and implementation of research projects.

During the visit, the delegates were introduced to the Institute’s scientific and production activities, publication achievements, participation in international mega-science projects, and global collaborations.

A guided tour was organized for the Academy’s delegation, during which the guests visited the storage facility for spent ionizing radiation sources, the WWR-K research reactor, the renovated production facility for “Aqua Dress” hydrogel bandages, and the radiation sterilization facility equipped with the “ILU-10” irradiation system.

During the meeting, Director General Sayabek Sakhiev provided the Academy’s delegation with an overview of the Institute’s activities. He emphasized:

— Currently, the Institute is the only research organization in the country dedicated to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, performing a full cycle of research and development, from fundamental studies to the production of high-tech products. The Institute produces radiopharmaceuticals based on isotopes I-131, F-18, and Mo-99 for cancer diagnostics and therapy, as well as industrial radioactive sources and hydrogel bandages.

As part of the presentation, the Director General also highlighted the publication achievements of the Institute’s researchers, noting that for the past five years, the INP has ranked first among research institutes in Kazakhstan in the number of publications in the Web of Science database.

At the end of the visit, the delegation discussed future plans for cooperation.
