Cooperation under the Global Nuclear Security Program

The US delegation visited the Institute of Nuclear Physics on July 17, 2025 to support joint efforts between Kazakhstan and the United States to ensure nuclear security. The delegation included representatives of the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) of the US Department of Defense, the head of the DTRA Office at the US Embassy in Astana, and representatives of the Contractor URS Federal Services International Inc.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the plan for implementing the joint cooperation program for 2025-2027, which includes conducting training courses and seminars on nuclear security, as well as supporting the Institute in strengthening the physical protection of its strategic infrastructure.

During the working meeting, which was held at the Nuclear Security Training Center., INP, the training needs of Kazakhstan specialists in the field of nuclear security, various approaches to conducting training events, and the topics of priority courses were discussed. Joint activities to strengthen the Institute's physical security system were also discussed.

Coordination of all work on the implementation of the joint cooperation program on DTRA’s behalf will be carried out by URS Federal Services International Inc., which was selected through a competitive selection process.
