Cooperation under the Cooperative Threat Reduction Program

The US delegation visited the Institute of Nuclear Physics on January 21, 2026 to support joint efforts between Kazakhstan and the United States to ensure nuclear security. The delegation included representatives of the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) of the US Department of Defense D. Fishman, B. Blessing, and D. Bissell, and representative of the Contractor URS Federal Services International Inc.

Representatives of the Nuclear Supervision and Control Committee of the Atomic Energy Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstan National Guard also participated in the working meeting, which was held at the Nuclear Security Training Center of the Institute of Nuclear Physics (NSTC).

During the meeting, planned activities under the Cooperative Threat Reduction program were discussed, based on the results of an analysis of technical support needs requested by the INP during the visit of the DTRA’s delegation in July 2025.

Human resource development activities, which includes technical consultations, exchange of experience, and joint training events on nuclear security issues at the NSTC will continue within the framework of the Cooperative Threat Reduction program Following the working meeting, the participants visited the dormitory built for students undergoing internships at the INP, as well as for students attending training courses and seminars organized by the INP training centers.
