Cooperation with Japan discussed in Astana

Opportunities for expanding Kazakh-Japanese cooperation in the nuclear sector were discussed in Astana by Sayabek Sakhiyev, Director General of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, and Yasumasa Iijima, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the meeting, both current projects and new areas of cooperation were discussed. Sayabek Sakhiyev noted that, as part of the 20th anniversary of the Institute's Astana branch, a meeting with a delegation from Japanese organizations JAEA and Marubeni Utility Services Ltd. was held at the Agency of the Repblic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy. He also reported on agreements reached to conduct advanced research with the National Institute for Fusion Science and the signing of an agreement with Ibaraki University. Furthermore, the Institute plans to establish the production of molybdenum-99 using the fragmentation method for subsequent delivery to Japan.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation.
