The Institute of Nuclear Physics will implement joint programs and scientific research with the world's first Central Asian Regional Glaciological Center of category 2 under the auspices of UNESCO and the Institute of Geology of Ore Deposits, Petrography, Mineralogy and Geochemistry (IGEM) of RAS.
The memorandum of trilateral cooperation was signed today by General Director of INP Sayabek Sakhiyev, Director of the Central Asian Regional Glaciological Center Takir Balykbayev and Director of the Institute of Geology of Ore Deposits, Petrography, Mineralogy and Geochemistry of the RAS Vladislav Petrov represented by his official representative Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, leading researcher Alexey Miroshnikov. This memorandum provides for the establishment of cooperation between three organizations aimed at implementing joint research and applied projects in the field of studying the climatic and radioecological situations on the glaciers of Central Asia.
Within the framework of the memorandum, the Parties intend to jointly conduct research, exchange experiences and implement scientific developments. Particular emphasis in joint research activities will be placed on the study of cryoconite material, spherical microbial-mineral granules that are formed from fine particles of dust and organic matter. A thorough study of this material under a microscope, according to specialists from two research institutes and a glaciological center will help shed light on issues related to climate change in the world, as well as the environmental situation in the mountainous regions of Central Asia.
Central Asian Regional Glaciological Center — is the world's first regional glaciological center. The Centre was established to conduct scientific research on glaciology, coordinate research activities and exchange information between different organizations involved in monitoring the state of glaciers, snow and permafrost in Central Asia, introduce and develop regional research programs on glaciology that meet the objectives of the International Hydrological Program.
The Institute of Geology of Ore Deposits, Petrography, Mineralogy and Geochemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences is a leading research institute of Russia. Its main activities are related to the development of fundamental problems of geology, mineralogy and geochemistry of deposits of various types of mineral raw materials, development of theoretical foundations of petrology, physical geochemistry, radiogeology and radiogeoecology.
