On February 13-17, 2023 the Nuclear Security Training Centre of INP (NSTC) has conducted the training course “Fundamentals of Information Security”. The Course was held within the framework of nuclear security cooperation between the Threat Reduction Agency of the US Department of Defense and the Government of Kazakhstan (Global Nuclear Security Program).This course was a "transitional course".The training materials, developed by DTRA’s instructors, were transferred to the NSTC for adaptation and updating. After the training materials were revised and updated, the Course was conducted by Kazakhstan instructors under the observation of DTRA’s instructors.
The purpose of the Course is to train the specialists on the basic principles of establishment of information security system at nuclear facilities.During the training, issues of information security policy, the requirements of the Kazakhstan legal framework and the IAEA recommendations, different types of threats and violations of information security, the interaction of information securitywith other types of security at the facilitywere touched upon. The Kazakhstan instructors have conducted theoretical, practical and demonstration classes. Also, tour on theNSTC facilities and training groundwas organized for the Course participants.
Following the results of thetraining 11Kazakhstan specialists – representatives of the CAESC, UMP JSC, RSE NNC RK, RSE at REM INP, MAEKreceived certificates on the successful completion of the course.
