On March 14, a consultation event on National Nuclear Forensics Libraries, organized by the US Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence closed at the Institute.
The seminar was attended by experts from various departments and organizations such as the Committee on Nuclear and Energy Supervision and Control of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Nuclear Security Administration, the Office of Global Materials Safety, the US Department of Energy, the US Embassy in Kazakhstan, Livermore National Laboratory (USA), Argonne National Laboratory (USA), Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (USA), Oak Ridge National Laboratory (USA), National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, NAC Kazatomprom JSC, National Nuclear Center of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mangistau Nuclear Power Complex of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aldiyar's Logistical Services and the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The three-day workshop also included the exercise. The participants identified the key issues, challenges and solutions associated with the development of a national nuclear forensics library. The results of this event were summed up by the General Director of the Institute of Nuclear Physics Sayabek Sakhiyev and Alina Smyslova - Deputy Director of the Sustainable Development Program of the US Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence. They expressed gratitude to the participants of the International Seminar and noted that organization of this consultation event on National Nuclear Forensics Libraries was the beginning of the development of this area in Kazakhstan. 39 seminar participants were solemnly awarded certificates of participation.
