Breakthrough in Nuclear Science: The Institute of Nuclear Physics presented the first issue of the “Advances in Nuclear Science and Applications” Journal

The scientific community has been enriched by a new international publication from Kazakhstan.

On April 17, the Institute of Nuclear Physics hosted the official presentation of the first issue of the Scientific Journal “Advances in Nuclear Science and Applications” - a publication that combines fundamental and applied research in the field of nuclear science and technologies. The new journal is positioned as an international platform of high scientific level, promoting open exchange of knowledge. Papers are published in English. The Journal will be published four times a year - in March, June, September and December. It is designed according to international standards of scientific publishing and aims to be included in the leading scientific databases such as Scopus and Web of Science. All articles are double-blind peer-reviewed and made freely available on the journal's official website https://journal.inp.kz/.

The Editorial Board includes more than ten recognized experts from eight countries, including Russia, Italy, Japan, USA, Turkey, Poland, Romania and Kazakhstan. The represented scientific organizations include the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Russia), Institute of Nuclear Physics (Kazakhstan), INFN (Italy), JAEA (Japan),

Argonne National Laboratory (USA), and other leading institutions. Sayabek Sakhyiev, Director General of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, noted: “We have been working towards creating the journal for more than one year. This is the result of serious and targeted work. Today, we have big plans and high expectations. We strictly follow international standards and are confident that “Advances in Nuclear Science and Applications” will take its rightful place in the world science.”

The Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, Professor Mikhail Itkis, added: “Six months ago, during a major Scientific Conference, we decided to release the first issue in March — and we kept our promise. I am proud of our team and thank everyone who contributed to this project. I would especially like to address young researchers — send us your articles, we are waiting for your papers. I am confident that the journal will become a noticeable platform and, in the future, will be included in the Q1–Q2 quartiles of the Web of Science scientometric database.” Karlygash Sakenova, Head of the External Assessment and Analysis Department of the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, called the launch of the Journal an event of historic scale:

“Considering the scientific authority of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and the team of the Editorial Board, Advances in Nuclear Science and Applications will definitely become a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration between the scientists engaged in advanced research in the field of nuclear physics.”

The first issue, published in March 2025, includes six peer-reviewed articles on relevant areas of nuclear science: quasi-fission and synthesis of superheavy elements, optical models in elastic scattering, electroweak effects in the reaction e⁺e⁻ → ZH, ceramic materials for nuclear energy, WWR-K reactor infrastructure, as well as studies of short-range correlations in atomic nuclei.

The Journal has already attracted the attention of the international scientific community. Authors and reviewers from the leading Research Centers note the high level of publications quality, which provides a serious foundation for the successful scientific future of the publication.
