On March 13, 2024, a regular meeting of the Academic Council was held at the Institute. The Agenda included the following issues:
— renewal of the team members and Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists (CYS) of the Institute;
— organizational issues for holding the 5th International Forum, Workshop on the source of ultracold neutrons (UCN) at the INP, SPD NICA collaboration meeting;
— foundation of a Laboratory for Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage, as well as nomination of Chingiz Daulbayev for the position of Head of this Laboratory.
The first speaker at the Academic Council meeting was Alexey Larionov, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists of the Institute, with a report on the work carried out by CYS in 2019-2024. In his report, he spoke about organization of the CYS activities over the past four years, organization of the CYS I International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists and participation of young specialists in international conferences and seminars, and also noted that number of young specialists of the Institute has increased almost three times.
Alimzhan Kapanov, an Engineer at the Laboratory of Radiation Materials Science, was elected by unanimous vote as the new Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists. He presented the CYS Work Plan for 2024, that includes general meetings of young specialists with participation of the General Director, sport events, scientific conferences, etc. Secretary of the Forum Maria Severinenko, Deputy Head of the Center for Integrated Environmental Research, spoke about organization activities for the 5th International Forum “Nuclear Science and Technologies”, which will take place on October 7-11, 2024 in Almaty.
The Forum Secretary informed the Academic Council about the outstanding issues of this event organization, the composition of the Program Committee and the Organizing Committee of the Institute, preparation of the draft of the first information message, sending out the invitations to the organizers of the Forum and scientists from near and far abroad to participate in the International Advisory Council and the Organizing Committee, design projects for booklets and advertising materials. She presented a general view of the participant registration page on the portal indico.inp.kz, and plans for publishing articles based on the Forum materials in foreign journals.
Also within the framework of the Scientific Council meeting, a Senior Researcher at the Laboratory of Neutron Physics, Head of the “UCN Physics” Group, Kylyshbek Turlybekuly, made a presentation. In his report, he shared the ongoing work “Workshop on the UCN source at the INP”, which will be held from April 8 to 10 in Almaty. Deputy General Director for Scientific Work Nurzhan Saduev. presented a Plan for holding a Collaboration Meeting on SPD NICA from May 20 to 24, 2024 and a report on current organizational issues. In addition to the reports, the Scientific Council considered the issue of creating a Laboratory for Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage and recommending the candidate of Chingiz Daulbayev for the position of Laboratory Head.
