BR09158499 – Development of complex scientific research in nuclear and radiation physics at the Kazakhstan accelerator complexes

Relevance

Development and creation of the hybrid nuclear reactors and the advanced fusion reactors is based, first of all, on new precision data on nuclear reactions and the yields of fission fragments on light, including exotic nuclei and transuranium nuclei, respectively. The nuclear constants, obtained at the accelerator complexes during measurement of the nuclear reactions cross sections on nuclei from lithium to lead at low energies and the yields of fission fragments on the thorium cycle nuclei, are in demand by the international nuclear data bank EXFOR (IAEA). Such database of nuclear constants provides correct modeling of the economical and safe energy balance of the advanced nuclear power plants.

Safety and efficiency of nuclear power plants is largely determined by the long-term service life of the structural materials of nuclear reactors at high radiation doses. Achievement of the high burn-up of nuclear fuel and the terms of safe operation of nuclear reactors are limited by the radiation resistance of materials of fuel assemblies, ducts of fuel elements and other in-reactor components. Therefore, development of materials science research aimed at studying the fine structure of structural steels and alloys, revealing the relationship between the structural changes occurring at the atomic level with the physical-mechanical characteristics of materials, is considered to be a relevant task.

Aim

The purpose of the research is implementation of fundamental and applied research in the area of nuclear and radiation physics, accelerator technologies on the basis of Kazakhstan accelerator complexes to create constant support bases that are in demand for development of the new promising nuclear and radiation technologies based on the peaceful use of atomic energy.

Expected results

New experimental data on differential, double-differential and integral cross sections, on the mass and energy characteristics of fission fragments from interaction of protons and deuterons with nuclei to characterize the processes occurring in stars and the perspective nuclear power plants.

Taking into account the effect of nonsphericity in three-dimensional scattering in nuclear reactions.

New experimental knowledge on the effect of irradiation with thermal and fast neutrons, charged particles and heavy ions on the changes in the phase structural state, mechanical and corrosion characteristics of structural materials of the perspective nuclear reactors, including structural steel EK-181 of new generation.

New data on the effect of helium implantation on the structure and properties of solid oxide ionic conductors based on lanthanum scandate.

Development of a quantitative method for analyzing the elemental composition of aerosols using heavy ion beams.

Optimized systems of the accelerator DC-60 for obtaining of the intense ion beams.

Achieved results

Research results and their novelty: new experimental and calculated data were obtained on the differential cross sections of the 11В(d,d)11В и 11В(d,t)10В processes at an energy of 14.5 MeV, on the double-differential and integral cross sections of 103Rh (p,xp), (p,xd), (p,xa); new data on the super-asymmetric fission of the 233Ra compound nucleus in the 232 Th(p,f) reaction at low energies; new experimental data and model calculations on the effect of irradiation with thermal and fast neutrons, charged particles and heavy ions, on the changes in the phase structural state, mechanical and corrosive characteristics of structural materials of the promising nuclear reactors, including the new generation structural steel EK-181; new data on the effect of helium implantation on the structure and properties of solid oxide ionic conductors based on lanthanum scandate; new experimental cross sections for the yield of X-ray radiation in the interaction of 12C with target atoms in the energy range (0.8÷1.6) MeV/nucleon; the results of the influence of the reference gas on the intensity of heavy ion beams in the ECR-source.
